ICARUSLIV3S’s Doom Mod list
I have made a doom mod list that I think could be helpful to some that would be interested in finding out what good mods are out there. Now I picked ICARUSLIV3S’ list from his Youtube playlist because it was a pretty good list (some mods I’m not so curious or crazy about) but, for the most part, especially more recent entries, are very good and should be checked up on.
I’ll be updating this document from time to time (so pretty much it’ll stay on 1.0.x version until something significant - like making an entirely new version of the list featuring my own entries - comes along). The point of this is to have a list of the supposed “best of the best” of doom mods both past and present.
121. Juvenille Power Fantasy - Doom Mod Madness

104. Insanity’s Requiem
Come with me as I dive into Insanity’s Requiem, a rather satisfying doom mod replete with meaty weaponry and beefy enemies to use them against. This episode also features levels from the rather good Disjunction, which I call Disjunct in the video for some reason!
103. DOOW
I think this is from the same guy that did DOOD, which simply just reversed the half of every level and even music files to the point where you don’t recognize what the hell is going around you.
In DOOW, you have everything not reversed halfway, but instead you have things upside down. Yes even the music goes bonkers as well in that direction.
102. Arachnocide
Challenging and not for the people that are afraid of bugs. Be sure to prepare your load out and do your reloads in isolated spaces because the bugs will not forgive you while you reload.
There’s a use of 3D item assets and you can even go around shooting akimbo with pistols!
There are even three class types of playable Doomguy characters that have each a unique loadout.
According to ICARUSLIV3s, the only weird thing about this mod is that it seems that the author of the mod really loves revolvers.
101. Complex Doom
This is is a randomizer mod - meaning that you’ll get different enemies and different weapon drops with every run.
The zombies are able to handle just about every weapon of the game, making it somewhat challenging unless you know how to strafe around.
There are some balancing with having enemies dropping some 2.5 HP boosts and that’s to compensate for the otherwise possibility of ending up going up against somethign really hard around the corner due to the randomizer factor.

100. Vulkan: Episode 1
Based on the Brutal Doom and it’s a nice mix of elements:
- Token collections (collect 100 and you get boosts!)
- Hordes, hordes, hordes! You’re going to have to retreat and take cover a few times.
- Seven levels and surpirse levels!
- Extremely difficult
99. SUPERDOOM
This is a mod that tries to recreate the experience of Super Hot.
The aesthetics are well re-created but the gameplay mechanical recreation of Super Hot is a okay, but not precise and the levels are short.
But the game is a bit faster paced than Super Hot (see videos of gameplay of the original)
98. Total Chaos (Alpha 2)
This is the first Doom mod that really takes things to “the next level” because the mod is using DOOM II engine for sure to base its self and after that, you’d swear the game was made with something like Unity or some other, modern, game engine such as Unity. This is a survival mod for all intents and purposes.
This game is hard, and is somewhat random with every play. The mod features are:
- Weapon degredation
- Weapon crafting
- Melee based combat (think Condemend: Criminal Origins)
- Ambient music and atmosphere with a focus on survival
- A growing list of frightning monsters
- There’s a “Sanity Meter” that follows of Amnesia: The Dark Descent
It’s still in develpment and so keep an eye on it.
97. MetaDoom
It’s a mod that mashes up the elements of Doom 1, 2, 3 2016 Remake, and Doom RPG into one seemless experience that encourages you to play through the levels.
- Features all the weapon load outs from Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, Doom (2016), and Doom RPG.
- Weapon spawns are varied and random
- Currently, 2017, there is active development for the game.
- Holy Water water gun!
Probably one of the content rich as far as weapon load out goes thus far.
96. Putrefier
A single map player mod that takes on the cues from Quake and Quake II. The weapons are basic and the monster roster are basic as far as the vanilla. This map mod focuses on you to get familiar of the game’s environs so as it will definitely help you to survive to be aware, and familiar, with your surroundings.
- Well unified layer map design
- Original music score
- Atmospheric envorionments
- Lovecraftian flesh horror
- Working terminals!
Very atmospheric and interesting of Doom maps and implies strongly of a supposed story - although it never does. But it almost does so this is one Doom map mod to definitely check out when you have the chance.

95. Ludicrium
Really it’s a jokewad (that is to say, a wad that’s mean to to be a joke). And this makes fun of the typical “slaughter map” where, typically, map design and orientation is not of major concern: it’s just there to make sure that there’s a ton of enemies to wipe out at once with high-end load out weaponry or some other environmental advantage or device at your disposal.
So this map mod just makes fun of all those types of mapes, again “slaughter maps”, and goes on crazy from there. Again, throw caution at the wind, get a cold beverage, and go nuts.
94. Too Many Shotguns
A weapons mod (I don’t know what that is in Doom mod parlance), but it’s a funny mod. It’s wacky and weird and if you’re in the mood for a humorous Doom mod to play with, go for it.
- Random wacky weapons
- You can maybe get killed by the very weapon you pick up (like a shotgun - see video for examples)
- You can use lipstick as a weapon
You can use Gabe Newall’s head as a weapon by the way. No really.

93. Batman Doom Reborn
This is a version of the old Batman total converstion mod for Doom that has been redone to work with the new technical advancement of current source ports of the Doom Engine (e.g. Doomsday, Zdoom, GZDoom).
You basically play as Batman going after everyone of the Batman’s rogues gallery. So there’s a lot of levels.
92. Dead.Air
This is a single map mod and it’s some “weird science” kind of aesthetic. With custom sound effects and unsettling graphics to get you to ask yourself if there’s something more that’s going on and motivated to stay alive while going through this crazy experience. And it’s quite difficult compared to vanilla levels of difficulty.

91. A Boy And His Barrel
One of the weirdest of mods. The premise is that you, Doomguy, are married to what seems to be a UAC barrel full of blueberry juice.
You have to have to protect it and have it around because if you don’t, you won’t be able to pick up health packs as it, the barrel, can only pick up health packs.
The level design will remind you of Portal as the whole map mod revolves around map puzzle solving to get across from point A to point B.
There’s only two levels, intro and level one, but it’s a work in progress so there’s something there to look forward to.
90. Nightmare of the Sin
This weapon mod is pretty much Castlevania meets Doom mashup. You’re weapon is primarily a whip that destroys your enemies utterly and even projectiles. The only problem? It’s got limited range as whips would.
You also get secondary weapons such as knives, bouncing diamond (refer to video or search for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for reference on “Bouncing Diamond”), throwing axes .

89. Wobbly Shaders
This mod just injects a shader that makes textures “wobble” and you can follow the manner that ICARUS put together to play at a more extreme instance of using this mod. But other than that, it’s what it does: turns Doom into Jell-O pudding.

88. A Very Doom Christmas 2016 - Urban Brawl: Dead of Winter
This game is just another Doom total conversion mod that allows you to blast through enemies. With cel-shaded art style and a Christmas theme, you should find this right at home if you want to shock friends and family about why you’re shooting Santa Claus with an Uzi.
87. Return of the Triad
This is a total conversion mod based on the GZDoom Source Port that tries to re-create the original feel of Rise of the Triad.
It’s pretty neat in how the author(s) managed to get it off the ground (I’ve never played the original - I played the remake that came out a few years back).
86. Run For It!
This mod basically, literally, adds legs to items and makes them move around and run. That’s it.
“Winners, don’t use drugs.”
85. Project Uber
This is a mod is really for akimbo fans. You can hold two weapons at hte same time (two guns, two shotguns, etc). And double the guns means double the fun. And that also means double the difficulty. That’s right, it’s harder than normall expected but it’s really there to balance to the akimbo gameplay mechanic.
84. Megabounce
This mod just makes everything, including yourself, to bounce up and down and it just makes things bounce. It’s weird but it makes for some fun challenging gameplay - albeit quircky.

83. Doom Hack
Probably the weirdest mods that you have ever played. What it is simply that it’s a pallete swap (all the texture assets have been replaced with other textures and animations).
Lots of references to various intellectual properties.
I’d recommend see the video to get a good idea before trying.
Also if you hate Barney, then you’ll love this.
82. Trump Doom
There’s a story, if you can believe it, to this Doom mod:
You are Donald John Trump, the hero of the forgotten quintessential red-blooded Americans on the 2016 presidential campaign trail. Hillary Rhodman Clinton has managed to get illegal aliens (read: not xenomorphs) to stop your campaign from being a total success in the world of success.
The gameplay style is less Doom and more Duke Nukem with some very and there’s some item and environmental interactivity.

81. Brutal Doom 64
This is one of the most recommended Doom mods at the moment as it takes Doom 64 (from the version of Doom that was once exclusive to the Nintendo 64 entertainment system) and is mashed up to work with the Brutal Doom Mod - the very Doom mod that is said to be credited to inspire most of the developers of the Doom 2016 reboot.
There’s a lot of features that include some weapons that were ultimately pulled in the original Doom 64 as per the claims found in the Doom Bible

80. Ghosted 2 v2
I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard of a internet legend (read: “urban legend”) of Slender Man. But what this mod does is recreate the video game that was based on the internet urban legend called Slender: The Eight Pages.or the newer, slicker, and more professional incarnation Slender: The Arrival. So the point is collecting keys (“pages”) an the more you collect the more the monster(s) will start closing in more and more on you till they find you and you die, unless you collect all the pages before they catch up to you.
So don’t let the kiddies play this unless they’re sure of wanting to be jump-scared.
79. Mayhem Mansion
One of the strangest mods that takes after a weird game called Exploding Lips . Which for all intents and purposes, is considered one of the most weird Doom-like games of the time back in the way. And this mod makes even as little sense as the title it takes after.
Save often becuase the game does get tough and auto-saves are scarce.
- Collect coins to buy items off the shop to then move on to newer or different areas is recommended
- You have to pay attention to item pickups because they’ll determine your progress as you go throughout the game.
- Mini - bosses!
- nonsense and illogical world that has some logic. Whee!
- loads of content - there is lots to play through!

78. Zombies
A really old Doom mod that was released in 1995 but updated to work with modern source port engines like ZDoom or GZDoom. Very inspired by Romero’s Dead series.
77. HaloDoom
Halo game mod for Doom but it really sucks. It’s really just for visuals and you should relaly just play if you want to try it out but it’s not really something I’d recommend unless you, or someone you know, is a die-hard Halo and Doom fan.
76. Unloved
Inspired by Silent Hill, Unloved is a Doom Mod that takes you on a journey between unpleasant worlds, from torture dungeons to realms composed of flesh. Unloved is a mod that will tie a knot in your stomach.
- Make sure to quick save very often because there will be moments where the game will be very, very difficult to the point where you’ll be feeling that the game is very unfair.
- It loses its atmosphere towards the end but otherwise, a very cool mod.
75. City of the Damned: Apocalypse
Welcome to the City Of The Damned! This is a Doom mod that takes place on a single map, takes its inspiration from both Resident Evil and Silent Hill, will generally rustle your jimmies and will also give you a pathological fear of air raid sirens.
- The enemies are sprites taken from Blood game
- Small weapon loadout to make sure to figuring out which one to use for the job
- Takes some inpsiration from Silent Hill as well as Unloved.
74.. You Dig
This is a single map mod where you can dig through the environment via “wall destruction” Key feature: you can hit demons with a shovel.
So Minecraft-ish a bit, with Doom or the other way around really.
73. H-Doom
This is really one of the pervy mods that invovle hentai chracters. It’s dumb, annoying, and it’s really for giggles.
72.. Winter’s Fury
Welcome to Winter’s Fury, where it’s cold as hell and the demons are swarming the slopes of Mt Baphomet. Seriously this is one of the nicest looking Doom Mods I’ve played, like if The Island had actual good gameplay… and map design… and boss fights… It’s pretty friggin’ fantastic.
71. Romero Death Skittles
Y’all kids like bowling? Romero Death Skittles is bowling, in Doom, with Romero heads on top of pins, also exploding pins, powerups, bonus stages, sweet chiptune music.
70. Natures Call
Some questions are best left unanswered, that however does not stop Natures Call from showing us what might happen if Doomguy drank too much health potion… or ate random hamburgers off the floor.

69. Resident Evil: Codename Hunk
While you’re waiting for the Resident Evil 2 Remake to drop why not spend a little time with Codename Hunk, a Doom Mod that attempts to recreate the Resident Evil experience within Doom.
68. Lasting Light
Lasting Light is a Doom mod that strips you of your weapons and leaves you in the dark with nothing but a lantern to light your way. Inspired by Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Slender: The Arrival, this is a Doom mod that will leave your jimmies rustled.
67. Doom 4 for Doom (D4D)
How many time’s can you type Doom in a sentence before the word Doom starts to melt into a Doom shaped puddle? Roughly three. Doom 4 For Doom is a Doom mod that somewhat obviously seeks to bring the Doom 4 gameplay style into Doom, it’s pretty awesome, even without glory kills.

66. Pogostick
Doom? As a side scrolling action platformer? It’s more likely than you think especially when dealing with the gonzo world of Doom mods. Pogostick is a mod that sadly does not feature Doomguy bouncing on a pogostick but it does feature some nifty platforming.
65. IMPatience
IMPatience is a doom mod that asks the question of what would happen if an imp got tired of waiting around. Step into the shoes of Hells most proactive imp and use Doomguys arsenal against him, the big green armor wearing tosser.
64. The Adventures of Super Chicken
Yes that is the actual title, no you don’t get to play as Wondeer but believe me when I say playing as Super Chicken in this ridiculous Doom gameplay mod is totally worth it.

63. Shadow of the Wool Ball

50. Colorful Hell
Colourful Hell is a Doom Mod that adds a buttload of randomized enemy variants and ranks them by colour, the higher up the colour scale they are, the stranger/more deadly they get. Perfect for livening up a map set you know inside out with colour coded chaos.

49. Combined Arms

48. Brutal Doom: Hell on Earth Starter Kit
Oh sure you’ve probably played Brutal Doom in some form or another by now but have you experienced the glory of a fully featured 32 level custom campaign? This is one Doom Mod that takes you on a hell of a journey.
47. Zen Dynamics
Zen Dynamics brings custom weapons, a seven level campaign and monster variants together in a doom mod that really is for the masochists out there. Something about this one just rubbed me the wrong way.
46. Boss Battles
Boss Battles is a doom mod that tasks you with defending Heaven against wave after wave of boss level demons. Choose your hero, load up your powerups and prepare to kick arse for the lord. Apologies if I gloss over any stuff, turns out recording a video with a headache makes it hard to think coherently.
45. Hocus Pocus Doom
Put on your robe and wizards hat as you go in search of magical spheres, battle monsters and put up with douchebag wizards in Hocus Pocus Doom, a Doom Mod based on the side-scrolling classic. Also thanks to Fluff for suggesting this one.
44. Aliens: Colonial Marines
They sure do get a lot of mileage out of the Aliens theme don’t they. Welcome back to Hadley’s Hope, the worst place in the universe as this doom mod puts you in the shoes of one doomed Colonial Marine against the Xenomorph horde.
43. Wolfendoom: Blade of Agony
Blade of Agony is a super impressive looking Doom mod that puts you back in the shoes of B.J. Blazkowizc, what does the B.J. stand for? Not that you dirty buggers. Forgive any references I miss to Wolfenstein 3D in this one, not as well versed in this world as I am Doom.
42. Contra Doom
Its time for revenge, lets attack aggressively with Contra Doom, a doom mod that mixes a little bit of doom and a little bit of Contra and turns out to be quite good arcadey fun. Also features the City Assault map.
41. John Romero Returns (E1M8 Remake)
Well I couldn’t just let this one pass me by. So here it is, roughly 12 minutes of some jackass talking about the Doom E1M8 aka Phobos Anomaly remake created by John Romero himself.

36. A Fistful of Doom
Get ready to wear a poncho, squint like Clint Eastwood and dispense with some good old fashioned wild west justice in A Fistful Of Doom! This is a short and sweet doom wad, only 2 stages long but as a fan of spaghetti westerns it made me smile.

33. Nocturne In Yellow
Bending the rules ever so slightly this week for Nocturne In Yellow, a doom engine game that features elements of creeping eldritch horror, Castlevania and bullet hell. Apparently it was also made in a month, It’s pretty damn awesome.
32. Stronghold: On The Edge of Chaos
Stronghold is a doom wad that injects an element of tower defense into Doom and tasks you with defending UAC bases across the galaxy against a fresh hellspawn invasion. Deploy mines, auto-turrets, marine reinforcements and maybe even your IRL buddies as you yell “I’m sick of these mother **ing demons in my mother*ing UAC base!”.

Witness a little piece of doom modding history with Aliens TC! Regarded as the very first Total Conversion even created for Doom it managed to do some really cool things, also Xenomorphs, everyone loves blasting Xenomorphs.
HOW TO RUN ALIENS TC
- Make sure your sourceport (GZDoom etc) has access to an Ultimate Doom version Doom.wad
- Highlight ALL files in Aliens TC folder
- Drag and drop onto sourceport application
- ????
- PROFIT!
You may sometimes get a different pulse rifle model every now and again, might have something to do with the load order but it should still work fine. If you did it correctly and have the right Doom.wad for your sourceport to use you shouldn’t see any “evil eye” doom assets in the first stage.

Arrr! Avast! Filthy landlubbers! Various other piratey phrases! Pirate Doom is a fantastic Doom mod inspired by Monkey Island, stuffed with awesome maps, fun weaponry and lots and lots of rum.

Sometimes its not enough to just make a good map, sometimes you need to break reality to really make things click. Impossible is a pretty damn good doom map, it also hates me.
